School Bus fire FairfieldMay 23, 2012
Just after 3:30pm Wednesday afternoon firefighters responded to a school bus fire on Verna Hill and Greenfield Hill Road. When firefighters arrived they found the rear of the bus on fire where the engine is mounted. There were about 20 students on board and the bus driver was able to evacuate the students with no problem. Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola told us the driver went back to investigate the cause of the fire and was overcome with smoke. He is being treated for smoke inhalation. No children were exposed any smoke or any or any hazards of combustion. Gomola said there appeared to be fuel oil or diesel on the roadway and they are investigating if this was a source or contributing factor as the cause of the fire. About 5 gallons of fuel oil did get in to a nearby stream from water used to battle the fire. Firefighters used absorbent pads to capture the oil in the stream and notified the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Fairfield, Connecticut is located along the Gold Coast of southwestern Connecticut. First settled by Roger Ludlow, a founder of the Connecticut Colony, in 1639, Fairfield was the site of much turmoil between independent-minded residents and the predomantly Loyalist settlers of the surrounding area during the pre-Revolutionary War era. In the spring of 1779, Fairfiels was raided by 2000 British troops and burned to the ground in retaliation for its rebel sympathies. Though recovery was slow, the houses and public buildings were restored by the outset of the 19th century. World War I brought unprecedented growth to Fairfield. An economic boom in Bridgeport, the center of a large munitions industry, created a housing shortage in the city, and many of the workers looked to Fairfield to build their homes. The trolley and later the automobile made the countryside accessible to these newly rich members of the middle class, who brought with them new habits, new attitudes, and new modes of dress. The prosperity lasted through the twenties. By the time of the stock market crash in 1929, the population had greatly increased. Even during the Depression, Fairfield kept growing. Just me giving u guys an outside tour of Fairfield's station 2 front and rear Station 2 houses the new Engine 2, Old Engine 2, new ladder 2, old car 3, Rescue 1, Engine 6 (which is another reserve engine and is also Engine 4's backup engine) ok that's what station 2 houses station 2 is on 600 Jenings RD in Fairfield CT ok now let me tell u about what the other stations house and also where they're located at ok station 1 is on 140 Reef Road (next to the police headquarters and firehouse deli) the units that station 1 houses is Engine 1, old Ladder 1, previous ladder 2 (now being used as the new ladder 1), marine 7 which is a marine unit, and rescue 12 station 3 is on 400 Jackman AVE in Stratfield,CT which is a part of Fairfield the units that are at station 3 are Engine 3, and Squad 15 (Stratfield VFD is a Volunteer fire department Fairfield has 2 volunteer fire departments) station 4 is on 69 Main Street in Southport,CT also another part of Fairfield the units that are at station 4 are Engine 4, Squad 14, and marine 14 (Southport VFD is the second volunteer fire department in Fairfield) and now finally station 5 station 5 is on 3965 Congress Street (near Burr Elementary school and Congress Street) the units that are at station 5 are Engine 5 and Engine 7 (Engine 7 is a reserve unit) tht's the old engine 7 the new Engine 7 is now the new engine 2 Fairfield has 3 reserve engines and those engines are engine 6 (Engine 6 is Engine 4's backup engine) Engine 7 (Engine 7 i ...
